Repeater Record Custodian (RRC) Edit Lock
The Repeater Record Custodian (RRC) role allows designated users to manage and maintain the accuracy of repeater records on RepeaterBook. As part of their responsibilities, RRCs can lock edits on a repeater, ensuring that any updates or changes must first be reviewed and approved by the custodian, if allowed at all.
What is the Edit Lock?
When an edit lock is applied to a repeater record:
- Non-RRC users: The edit options for the repeater are disabled, preventing unauthorized or unverified updates.
- RRC users: The custodian is the only person who can submit updates to the repeater record.
This feature ensures that repeater records remain accurate and up-to-date, particularly for repeaters with complex configurations or unique requirements.
Responsibilities of RRCs
To maintain the edit lock status, RRCs must fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Annual Review: RRCs are required to review and reverify their repeater records at least once per year. This ensures that the information remains current and reliable.
- Approval of Edits: Any updates to the locked repeater must be evaluated and approved by the RRC.
- Timely Updates: RRCs should respond promptly to requests for changes to ensure the repeater information remains accurate.
Failure to reverify repeater records annually may result in the removal of the edit lock, allowing other users to submit updates for approval.
Benefits of the Edit Lock
The edit lock feature offers several benefits:
- Improved Accuracy: Ensures that repeater records are maintained by knowledgeable custodians.
- Reduced Errors: Prevents unauthorized or incorrect edits by non-RRC users.
- Enhanced Accountability: Holds RRCs responsible for maintaining the integrity of the repeater data.
How to Apply and Maintain an Edit Lock
1. Applying the Edit Lock:
- Once designated as an RRC for a repeater, the custodian can enable the edit lock from the repeater’s details page.
- This action restricts edit requests to the RRC only.
2. Maintaining the Edit Lock:
- Review and verify the repeater record annually.
- Confirm that all details, such as frequency, location, mode, and operational status, re accurate and up-to-date.
3. Reverification Process:
- Log into RepeaterBook and navigate to the repeater record.
- Verify the accuracy of the details and mark the record as reviewed.
- Submit any necessary updates to reflect changes in the repeater's configuration or status.
Important Notes
- RRCs who fail to review and reverify their records annually may lose their ability to lock edits.
- Users who identify outdated or incorrect information in a locked record can submit a request for review, which the RRC will evaluate.
- Custodianship is a privilege, and RRCs are expected to maintain a high level of diligence in managing their assigned records.
