D-Star

D-Star (Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio) is a digital communications mode developed by Icom. The mode is capable of transmitting voice or data on the following bands:

  • 2-m
  • 70-cm
  • 23-cm

D-Star transmits in 4.8kbps digital voice (DV) mode and 128kbps data (DD) mode. When using DD mode with a PC and the D-STAR radio, high-speed data communication is possible.

D-Star systems can employ gateways, enabling worldwide communications.
