CANWARN

The Canadian Weather Amateur Radio Network (CANWARN) assist Meteorological Services Division of Environment Canada. in its mission to protect life by gathering pertinent weather information from actual visual observations and reporting them back to an Environment Canada office. Amateur Radio operators receive training to conduct ground-truthing operations and report what the conditions are like “on the ground.” on how to recognize certain types of weather and cloud formations and how to report what they see back to Environment Canada.

Repeaters that supports CANWARN nets can be noted and searched for on Repeaterbook. Amateur radio operators and scanner listeners alike may tune to these repeaters to hear the raw field reports about local weather as they are being reported back to Environment Canada.

CANWARN members also alert other amateur radio operators when a weather alert has been dispatched.
